These all-new Mercedes A-class has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.
The official pictures show the third-generation model has a conventional hatchback silhouette and forgoes the tall, one-box MPV-like statue of previous versions. It will rival the Audi A3, BMW 1-series and Volkswagen Golf when it goes on sale in the summer.
Mercedes has based the brand's smallest model on the new MFA (modular front architecture) platform. A range of petrol and diesel engines will be offered, echoing the units offered in the larger B-class. That means 107bhp and 136bhp turbocharged 1.8-litre common rail diesels and a turbocharged 1.6-litre direct injection petrol unit in two states of tune that produces either 154bhp or 120bhp.
An Audi RS3-rivalling turbocharged performance model will take the A-class into the performance end of the C-segment for the first time. |
